Achilles Tendinitis - Treatment

SonocurĀ® treatment has been successful in treating Achilles tendinitis in the majority of patients, but may need to be combined with some of the other corrective measures noted below. Surgery is now rarely an option unless there is tendon rupture.

Pain in the Achilles tendon may be caused by partial or complete rupture, and your physician must exclude this diagnosis before referral for SonocurĀ® treatment. Achilles tendinitis may be associated with certain types of arthritis. Problems with limb alignment or foot mechanics may be important factors.

Physiotherapy with stretching and strengthening, orthotics, footwear and activity modification, including the correction of training errors, and anti-inflammatory drugs may all help. Most physicians are reluctant to inject steroids into the Achilles area because of the risk of tendon damage and possible rupture.

The Sonocur® Orthopedic Extracorporeal Shockwave system is available in Canada and other countries where regulatory approval has been obtained. The Sonocur® Basic is FDA approved in the United States for the treatment of chronic lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow).
